A clear, plain-English guide to counterespionage and the protection of sensitive information.
Counterespionage is one of the more misunderstood corners of security. This site is here to explain it plainly, for boards and executives, legal teams, and anyone simply trying to understand how confidential information stays confidential.
It leans on the principles that hold over time rather than the day’s headlines, so it stays useful.
This resource is maintained by Julian Claxton and Jayde Consulting Pty Ltd. Julian has spent more than three decades working across counterespionage, technical surveillance countermeasures and behavioural intelligence, advising boards, senior executives and government stakeholders. His academic background includes a Master of Science in Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis, with postgraduate study in investigative interviewing, behavioural profiling and forensic linguistics.
The work itself is carried out by three connected practices. Jayde Consulting handles the technical and counterespionage side, including TSCM. Threat Advisory covers the behavioural, insider and advisory work. And Julian Claxton provides board-level and confidential executive counsel. They share people and a common standard, so wherever your question leads, it is the same hands behind it.
Counterespionage attracts a share of operators who overstate their experience, obscure their history, or lack genuine training, and the access this work involves makes that a real risk. We have seen the damage that does, which is part of why this guidance is here. If you are engaging anyone, technical or behavioural, it is worth reading how to choose a provider first, and holding us to the same standard.
Everything here is general, written to help you understand the subject. If a situation is actually unfolding, or sensitive, it is worth talking to someone who can look at the specifics. The find a specialist page will point you to the right person.
What you say in confidence is your business. Keeping it confidential is ours.
